We are looking for an experienced, high-calibre Direct Tax Compliance Specialist to lead, develop, and scale our corporate tax service line. This senior position combines strategic business development, complex direct tax advisory, and risk oversight with the active mentorship of an expanding team of professionals. Acting as the principal authority for our clients and internal stakeholders, you will ensure total technical excellence across all Maltese corporate income tax returns, statutory filings, and international reporting standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include:
Leadership & Strategy
- Defining and executing the tax service line strategy in alignment with the firm’s overall objectives.
- Promoting innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement in the delivery of tax services.
- Promoting the use of tax technology and automation tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
Tax Advisory & Transactions
- Providing expert tax advice on corporate reorganisations, M&A transactions, and inbound/outbound investment structures.
- Providing guidance on transfer pricing policies and documentation to support cross-border structures and compliance with OECD principles.
- Acting as the key tax contact for major clients, offering strategic and practical guidance tailored to their needs.
- Staying ahead of international and domestic tax developments, including OECD BEPS, Pillar 2, CRS, FATCA, and other regulatory frameworks, ensuring timely communication of implications to clients and colleagues.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Overseeing corporate tax compliance, including returns, reporting, and statutory filings.
- Ensuring all operations comply with Maltese tax laws and international reporting standards.
- Developing and maintaining tax risk frameworks, embedding governance and compliance across all client and internal engagements.
- Developing and implementing internal tax policies, procedures, and best practice frameworks to ensure consistency and efficiency across the department.
Client Service & Business Development
- Building strong, long-term client relationships by providing trusted, proactive advice on tax matters.
- Cross-selling tax services in collaboration with other service lines such as corporate administration, accounting, and advisory.
- Actively participating in industry forums, seminars, and professional associations to strengthen the firm’s reputation and visibility in the tax field.
Team Leadership
- Leading, mentoring, and developing the tax team.
- Managing team resourcing, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Supporting training, professional development, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to build technical excellence and career progression.
Business Development & Strategic Contribution
- Contributing to the strategic growth of the firm by identifying and developing opportunities to expand tax services.
- Assisting in drafting thought leadership content, client briefings, or presentations that showcase the firm’s tax expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Law, Taxation, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Extensive experience in tax advisory, compliance, and planning, ideally gained within a professional services or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of Maltese tax legislation, international tax developments, and regulatory reporting obligations.
