Job Summary

The Head of Client Accounting is responsible for leading the accounting function to deliver excellence within a dynamic Corporate Service Provider (CSP) environment. This role oversees the preparation, review, and timely delivery of accurate financial statements and reconciliations for a diverse client portfolio. The incumbent ensures strict compliance with IFRS, GAPSME, GAAP, tax regulations, and statutory requirements while upholding the highest ethical standards. The Head of Client Accounting drives the development of robust internal controls, optimises accounting processes, and manages resource allocation to exceed client expectations. By building strong client relationships and collaborating across tax, audit, and legal departments, the role ensures seamless operations and identifies opportunities for service enhancement.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a professional team comprising Accounts Managers, Senior Accounting Officers and Accounting Officers.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and identifying professional development opportunities to foster a high-performing culture.
  • Effectively allocate departmental resources and manage workloads to ensure all client and internal deadlines are met.

Financial Reporting & Operational Oversight

  • Oversee the end-to-end preparation and review of financial statements for a varied client portfolio.
  • Manage client audit processes, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors. Oversee payroll processing, VAT compliance processes and related statutory compliance where applicable.

 Compliance, Controls & Standards

  • Ensure all client accounting deliverables adhere to IFRS, GAAP, GAPSME, local tax regulations, and statutory filing requirements.
  • Refine and implement procedures to drive operational efficiency and accuracy across the department.

Client Relationship Management & Business Development

  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, delivering tailored financial solutions that address their unique business needs.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery and cross-sell additional firm services to existing clients.
  • Work closely with the Tax and Co-sec departments to provide a holistic and seamless service experience.

Innovation & Industry Awareness

  • Stay current with evolving accounting standards, tax laws, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Monitor accounting software systems and drive digital transformation initiatives to maintain a strategic edge.
  • Maintain active professional warrants and memberships through mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with Maltese regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Accounting (Bachelor/Master), ACCA qualification, or an equivalent professional certification.
  • Extensive experience in a senior accounting role, with a proven track record of leadership within a CSP or professional services environment.

Key Competencies

  • Deep expertise in IFRS, GAAP, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
  • Ability to analyse complex financial data to identify trends, mitigate risks, and propose high-level solutions.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate technical financial concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and clients.
  • Proven ability to manage strict deadlines and adapt to evolving regulations and technologies.
