Role Purpose
The Accounts Officer maintains accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and accounts, ensuring that all transactions are recorded correctly and on time. S/he assists in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, reconciles bank statements and balances payables and receivables. S/he supports the preparation of budgets, monitors expenditures, and ensures compliance with relevant financial regulations. S/he assists with VAT and corporate income tax return preparation, supports external audits by providing required documentation, and monitors cash flow and forecasts.
Duties & Responsibilities include:
Record-Keeping & Transaction Processing
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and accounts.
- Reconciling payables and receivables.
- Maintaining organised records of invoices, receipts, and supporting documents in both physical and digital form.
- Following up on outstanding payments or clarifying invoice discrepancies.
- Assisting with client onboarding tasks, setting up basic ledger accounts and helping with initial data entry for new clients.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assisting in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and management accounts.
- Assisting with budget preparation, monitoring, and control.
- Monitoring cash flow, expenditures, and financial forecasts.
Reconciliation & Controls
- Reconciling bank statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Compliance & Tax
- Ensuring compliance with national and international financial regulations.
- Assisting with the preparation of VAT returns.
- Assisting with the preparation of corporate income tax returns.
Audit Support
- Supporting external audits by providing necessary documentation.
Continuous Professional Development & Industry Awareness
- Ensuring studies for the achievement of complete accounting qualifications proceed as planned.
Qualifications (preferred)
- Reading for a Bachelor of Accounting degree or around halfway through the ACCA qualification.
- Around 2 – 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of Xero is considered an asset.
