Job Summary
The Accounts Manager manages and develops the accounting function to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for a varied client portfolio. S/he oversees all aspects of the accounting cycle, from daily operations to monthly and annual closings, ensuring adherence to applicable standards such as GAPSME and IFRS. S/he leads the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and performance reports to support informed decision-making. S/he coordinates with external auditors during statutory audits and maintains strong client relationships. S/he drives process improvements, optimises systems, and ensures the accounting team’s professional growth within a collaborative and high-performance environment.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervising, mentoring, and developing the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Allocating workload effectively and fostering a supportive, collaborative work environment.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Overseeing the preparation and analysis of financial statements in line with GAPSME, IFRS, and other applicable standards.
- Managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Coordinating with external auditors during clients’ statutory audits.
- Ensuring compliance with local reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Overseeing all client deliverables, including VAT and tax submissions.
Operational Accounting Management
- Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
- Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data to senior management.
- Developing and implementing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Preparing budgets and forecasts, monitoring variances, and providing insights to support business decisions.
- Proactively identifying and addressing accounting or compliance risks for both the company and its clients.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Implementing and maintaining accounting systems.
- Evaluating emerging accounting technology/tools to improve efficiency.
- Recommending and executing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Client Relationship Management
- Acting as the central point of contact for assigned clients.
- Maintaining and strengthening client relationships through responsive and tailored service delivery.
Continuous Professional Development and Industry Awareness
- Keeping up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
- Participating in mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain professional qualifications, warrants, or memberships in line with Maltese regulatory requirements.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Bachelor/Master of Accounting degree/ ACCA qualification or equivalent.
- Approximately four to five (4-5) years of working experience in an accounting environment is considered an asset.
Skills Required

- Solid technical knowledge of GAPSME, IFRS, and local compliance requirements.
- Proficient in managing end-to-end accounting cycles, including financial reporting and payroll.
